Most people know a product labeled Organic is good for them and the environment. Many, though, don’t know why Organic is good and how it is different. An informed public is the best way to gain better understanding and acceptance for organic and natural products.
Currently, there is a lack of video and television programming directed to the general public that presents a clear picture of the positive health and environmental aspects of organic and naturally grown foods. Discovering Our Organic Planet - USA will help to fill this void with a high quality video documentary series that will draw attention to organics, increase knowledge, help instigate conversation and use, and be fun to watch.
This is a multifaceted documentary of adventure in environmental stewardship, the importance and processes of local, regional and national organic products, the experiences of American cultural diversity, intrigue of travel to different regions of the USA, and the discovery of ones’ self identity and new knowledge gained as an organic farm volunteer.
Each segment of this 13 x 30 minute documentary series will focus on a specific group of organic farms and their products in different regions of the USA.
As a unique, on-going storyline throughout the series, viewers will gain a better understanding of organic and sustainable lifestyles through the unique experiences of volunteers on farms, orchards and ranches as they work with and learn from the farmers about organic and natural farming.
Many of these volunteers have never stepped foot on a farm before. The experiences of each volunteer will be entertaining and personal. Discover what it is really like for somebody to give up one lifestyle (students, professionals, retirees) to take on the challenge of the unknown, to live and work on a farm, orchard or ranch and, in many cases, in another part of the country.
Volunteers will share their stories and learning experiences as they pull carrots in Minnesota, pick grapes in California, feed chickens in Washington, till soil in Iowa, cure cheese in Wisconsin, herd cattle in Texas or sort potatoes in Idaho. All these aspects (mini stories) will be intertwined creating a unique introduction and better understanding to organic and naturally grown products, local and regional organic farming techniques, and the many wonderful people involved.
The central theme of Discovering our Organic Planet - USA is to promote an exchange of local, regional and national ideas and experiences, to help build a community consciousness of the nutritional benefits of organically and naturally grown food and products, and the positive environmental impact of ecological farming practices.
Currently, Discovering our Organic Planet - USA is in development and funding status, with production proposed to start in 2008.
